Message from Peter Davis (9 December 2018)
Huge thanks and congratulations to all OCS
members who participated in the excellent performance of “The Armed Man” on
Sunday 9 December. I was delighted with the whole concert, from the excellent
instrumental solos that preceded the choir, to the passion and musical commitment
that the whole choir brought to the Jenkins. It clearly had a huge impact on
our audience – and how lovely to end the term with a standing ovation! Thank
you so much for all your hard work, and I would like to reiterate my sincere
thanks to Harry, Liz and Sarah for their weekly dedication to the Choral
Society. I know that Harry has made a really positive start with the choir as
chorus master this term, and that he is looking forward to conducting next
term’s concert with you.
Our next performance is
on Sunday 24 March, and you will find full details of the repertoire on the
Next Concert page of the website, as well as rehearsal dates on the
Rehearsals page.
Please
could I remind you to order copies of the choral works in advance (preferably
from our local bookshop, Walker of Oakham) in the correct editions:
Vivaldi
Magnificat,
RV 610 [Carus ISMN M-007-05720-6]
J
S Bach Mass in F major, BWV 233 [Bärenreiter ISMN 979-0-006-46642-9]
Subscriptions for next
term remain unchanged: £35, or £55 for couples. Please could I urge you to
bring your subscription with you to the first rehearsal in January? Cheques
should be made payable to Oakham Choral Society, and please write your name
and contact details on the envelope. Please note that we are no longer able
to accept cheques for subscriptions or tickets made payable to Oakham School.
I would like to take
this opportunity remind you all of the importance of our shared role in
keeping the Choral Society viable, both in terms of numbers of singers and numbers
of patrons attending our concerts. Anything you can do to help recruit more
singing members and/or concertgoers for next term would be much appreciated.
We
look forward to seeing you at the first rehearsal of next term on Tuesday 8
January 2019.
Very
best wishes,
Peter
